Interview with a local
Gerry Axtelius, OKQ8 in Arvidsjaur
Gerry Axtelius, OKQ8, Arvidsjaur
Name: Gerry Axtelius

Age: 47

Family: Wife and three children

Home:
Arvidsjaur but I was born in Göteborg (Gothenburg). We came to Arvidsjaur in 1980 where I was an officer at the K4 army base for ten years.
Then I became the manager of the Konsum supermarket here, after which we moved south again.
Recently we returned to Arvidsjaur because we felt homesick.

Occupation:
I am the new manager of the OKQ8 petrol station in Arvidsjaur.
The station has developed in a positive way and my first winter season has been both fun and educational.

Favourite food:
I love a heavy chunk of bloody meat.

Dream car:
Ferrari Testarossa, red.

Present car:
BMW 523, dark blue metallic.

Spare-time activities: I hunt moose and small game and I own a dog, a German short-hair.
I also love whisky! I have about 40 bottles of whisky, most of them single malts. Among them is the Swedish brand Mackmyra.
A favourite is a 23-year-old Scottish whisky called Linkwood.
What’s good in Arvidsjaur?
The inhabitants are the best thing about Arvidsjaur. They are positive, accommodating and take care of each other.
The picture of people in the North as being quiet and closed in, is definitely wrong. The people of Arvidsjaur are the opposite. They are talkative and open.

What’s bad in Arvidsjaur?
I am afraid that the planned renovation of Storgatan (the main street in Arvidsjaur) will take away a lot of parking places. This will be a bad thing and I hope that I am wrong about this.

Music:
I like all kinds of music. Dance music is good because it makes me want to dance, which is great fun. I love to have fun.

What’s important in life?
To be healthy and to feel that I am living a good life.
To take care of my family and my wife. I believe that you only marry once so it is important to take care of your own.
