Sofie Holmgren, manager of Silverhatten, says that the events are a perfect complement to the car testing. They make sure the one does not interfere with the other, so for instance, the events people have tracks of their own.
She says that the events business constitutes about 20 percent of their total income. However, they are very careful to always put the car testers first as they are their most valuable customers.
Some smaller companies also arrange different kinds of events. BOSCH and other “car testing” companies have their own events as well, with customers and employees enjoying the adventures of Lapland.
There is a rumour that there will be a three-month-long event in Arjeplog in the summer of 2011 that will be the mother of all events in the region. It is shrouded in total secrecy, which means that most people have heard about it but not all the details have been revealed.
All in all, the events gross a large amount of money every year and already constitute an important part of the tourism industry that is today the backbone of local businesses. |
